Role: Surface Land Coordinator
Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced and highly organized Surface Land Coordinator to manage and coordinate all aspects of surface land administration and acquisition activities across Alberta, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia.
Reporting to the Wells Operations Manager, the successful candidate will play a key role in supporting drilling, completions, production, facilities, and pipeline projects by ensuring surface land requirements are completed efficiently, accurately, and in compliance with regulatory obligations. This position requires strong technical knowledge of surface land administration, stakeholder engagement, regulatory processes, and land systems management.
The Surface Land Coordinator will work closely with internal teams, brokers, consultants, regulatory agencies, landowners, and the Surface Landman to support ongoing operations and capital projects.
Job Responsibilities
Surface Land Administration & Acquisition
Coordinate and manage all surface land activities associated with wellsites, pipelines, facilities, and infrastructure projects.
Serve as a primary point of contact for internal stakeholders, field personnel, landowners, brokers, surveyors, environmental consultants and government agencies.
Resolve landowner concerns and maintain positive stakeholder relationships.
Initiate and coordinate new capital acquisition projects through the Right-to-Deal (RTD) process.
Draft, process, and administer:
Surface Leases
Easements
Amendments
Third Party and Road Use Agreements
Road Use Maintenance Invoicing
Rental Runs
Review, negotiate, execute, and maintain all surface-related documentation in a timely manner.
Regulatory Compliance & Project Support
Coordinate with brokers and consultants to ensure all regulatory notifications, applications, and documentation are accurate and compliant.
Support operations and development teams by providing location-specific information and land-related data.
Ensure projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements.
Review Land Title Certificates and support survey documentation for proposed wellsite and pipeline developments.
Maintain an up-to-date understanding of provincial regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
Lands Systems & Record Management
Establish and maintain land records for wellsites, pipelines, facilities, and related assets within the corporate land system (CS Land).
Update land databases to reflect acquisitions, amendments, assignments, rental reviews, and other changes.
Maintain accurate records, correspondence, agreements, registrations, and supporting documentation.
Process and administer surface-related assignments and documentation associated with acquisitions and divestitures (A&D transactions).
Review rental payment obligations and invoices to ensure timely processing and payment.
Qualifications
Minimum 10 years of surface land coordination experience within the Western Canadian oil and gas industry.
Extensive experience with Alberta, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia Crown and freehold surface land processes.
Strong understanding of Surface Land Right and Regulations for Alberta, Saskatchewan and BC.
Comprehensive knowledge of provincial legislation, regulatory requirements, and industry standards related to surface land management.
Experience supporting wellsite, pipeline, and facilities development projects.
Exceptional organizational and time-management skills with strong attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Proven ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with landowners, regulators, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
Self-motivated, proactive, and capable of working independently.
Collaborative team player with a professional and positive attitude.
